About Ball State University
Ball U first started as a private school, in 1899, under the name of Eastern Indiana Normal School, and it was then focused on educating teachers. The school's name was changed in 1922, with the approval of the Indiana Legislature, and Eastern Indiana Normal School became Ball Teachers College. The land on which the college stood was donated by the Ball Brothers, in early 1918, after whom the university was later named.
Originally founded as a normal school, BSU has expanded over the years, being renowned today for its educational programs offered in various fields of study that include anthropology, architecture, entrepreneurship, communications and exercise science.
The BSU athletic teams are known as the Ball State Cardinals, competing in the NCAA Division I / IA. Ball State University is a member of the Mid-American Conference, also known as MAC, covering all sport areas, except volleyball, in which BSU competes in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA).

Facts & Short history of Muncie
Archaeological investigations suggest that the first inhabitants of the area were the Delaware Indians, who lived here around the '70s. In 1865, Muncie was incorporated as a city, and contrary to the popular legend, the city was not named after Chief Munsee, but after Munsee Town, the "white" name of the Indian settlement, "munsee" meaning member of the Delaware tribe.
The city's climate is warm during summer, when the temperatures tend to be as high as 84°F (July) and cold during winter, when the temperatures are as low as 16°F (January). The wettest month of the year is known to be June, when the average rainfall is around 4 inches. The average annual precipitation in Muncie City is 38.93 inches.
